Pražská botanická zahrada was established by the National Committee of the City of Prague in 1968 and opened its doors on January 1st, 1969. The botanická zahrada has a large outside area and the Fata Morgana, a tropical plants and butterfly conservatory.
The outdoor part of the zahrada is spread over an area of nearly 25 hectares and contains different gardens. The ‘Ornamental garden’ is the oldest part of the outdoor stands and was opened in 1992. The ‘Japanese Garden’, founded in 1997, contains the ‘Hillside’, ‘Pivoňková meadow’, and the ‘Evergreen trees and perennials stínomilné’, a unique collection of plants that grow in the undergrowth in forests of Europe, Asia and America.
The zahrada also has a ‘North American semi-desert’ , where you can find lots of cactus plants and conifers. And in the ‘Wetland and lake’ frogs lay their eggs in the spring and carnivorous plants live here. Also you can visit the vineyards of the botanická zahrada, which are spread out over the hillside that will lead you back to the bus stop.
From the botanická zahrada, you can see the Zahrada Trojského zámku, which is also worth taking a look around.
